Growing up on the west coast, the Rockies have always been one of my favorite places to visit! As a child my parents drove us out for camping trips frequently, and since I moved away Dave and I have returned to visit at least every couple of years. These landscapes were an early inspiration for my landscape photography and I was so excited when three of my clients this year asked to do engagement sessions in the Rockies! Unfortunately this year the entire area was drowned in forest fire smoke from a huge fire just a few kilometres from Banff, which obscured most of the views. It was actually incredibly sad seeing this place like that and made me want to go back again soon. I was even more disappointed that Danny and Maryknoll flew all the way from Toronto for less than 48 hours just to have their engagement session with those views, and this was there first time in the Rockies too! In fact I felt so bad about it that Dave and I drove them all around looking for good photo spots from Banff to the Bow Valley Parkway, all the way out to Emerald Lake, and finished the day off at Lake Louise. We actually ended up with some of the most unique, surreal images that I love and we wouldn’t have been able to get at any other time! But best of all, Danny and Maryknoll are just the sweetest couple who took the whole thing in stride and just seemed happy to be together. Despite being together for several years they’re also still so romantic and cute!
