I had the opportunity to photograph some really unique, special weddings this year, and this one was definitely no exception! Intimate weddings and destination weddings are two of my favorite things, so it’s even better when they’re both combined!
Hailly and Joey are Alberta natives now living in Saskatchewan and decided to fly out with their closest family and friends to get married just off the coast of BC. They rented out the entire Gowlland Harbour Resort on Quadra Island, surrounded by the most beautiful pacific northwest scenery. Even though I grew up just a few hours south in Victoria, I had never actually been to Quadra Island, and maybe never would, so i’m so thankful that Hailly invited me out there for her wedding! It’s the most peaceful place full of beaches, mountain hikes, forests and beautiful sunsets. Needless to say the beautiful scenery is also perfect for photos!
Hailly and Joey were highschool sweethearts and had already been together for years, raising two adorable sons, before their wedding day. There’s always something extra sentimental with a sense of added meaning at weddings with couples who already have a long history together. It was so sweet seeing their sons get to experience their parent’s wedding!
They got married on a little cliff with a 180 degree view of ocean all around, then had a family style dinner outside on the deck surrounded by the forest, golden string lights and ocean views in the background. The entire day was easy-going, fun and full of cute bohemian details throughout. I especially loved all the personal little touches like Hailly’s bouquet of flowers picked from a local farm and the fact that she had her grandfather officiate the ceremony!
